‘Teach Me and I Remember’

Political fashion has always been deeply imbued with symbolism–the good and the bad.

At Wednesday’s inauguration, Dr. Jill Biden’s dress sported a meticulously embroidered flower from each state and territory, sending a message of unity. The other message was one of sustainability: The cashmere coat and organza dress were made by designer Gabriela Hearst from existing available materials to minimize the carbon impact of the dress.

Inside the coat there’s an embroidered message from Benjamin Franklin: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

I’m blown away by the simplicity and beauty of this ensemble and all it means. We can do this. This can be normal.
